I believe that being video taped while you are instructing is a great way to learn and grow as a teacher. Them more a teacher can observe others and themselves the more techniques that you can pick up and build upon. For example a teacher may think that every time they tell their students to sit down that they are doing it in a positive manner, but then looking over the film they notice a mean, non-intentional facial expression or body position. These actions may be something that the teacher never noticed about him/herself so watching a videotape will be very useful and informational.
As a student teacher I am nervous for the video tapping because I have no idea how I will be perceived on it. But I know that it will help me grow as a teacher. I will use the pointers that were given in the article. It said that a common theme was not moving while giving instruction. I found this interesting because often times the teacher is walking across the classroom while giving instruction. I remember having a teacher who did this and I always seemed to miss half of what she said.
As a teacher I plan to use strategies that are displayed in successful teacher classrooms. I will use direct instruction and clear visuals to make my class easier to understand. I will try and be aware of my body language and facial expressions. I will use video to try and better myself as a teacher so that I can do the best for my students.
